Located in Hilton Head, South Carolina, Harbour Town Golf Links is the venue for the annual RBC Heritage Golf Tournament on the PGA Tour. This is usually the first event after The Masters. I played it as the 2nd round of a 2-day amateur tournament so had to balance pace of play with taking photos.
The 1st is a relatively straight par 4 – here is the view from the tee:

As you can see from the photo above, the majority of the course is pretty tight with OB on both sides of the fairway. The 2nd hole is a slight dogleg to the right par 5.

The 3rd is another relatively straight par 4. Positioning in the fairway is vital here or you could be blocked out by the large tree just short of the green.

The 4th hole is the first par 3 on the course with water short and left of the green:

The 5th hole is a long dogleg left par 5 with water down the left. One interesting feature of this hole is a large bunker with an grass island in the middle.

The second shot on hole 5:

This is the view from the approach shot on the 6th hole:

The 8th tee:

View from the 9th fairway, a short par 4 with a large bunker in the front of the green:

The 10th is a slight dogleg left par 4. From the tee, it is a little deceiving – I actually hit my tee shot towards the 16th fairway in the distance.

The 11th hole:

The 12th hole is another dogleg left par 4. Again, position off the tee is very important.

The 13th hole is a beast. It is not very long, but positioning off the tee is critical and the green is diabolical. As one of my playing partners said – “It’s like it is giving you the middle finger”. The pin was on the little peninsula jutting out into the bunker – if you missed more than a few yards to either side, you would end up in the sand.

The final par 3 on the course – the 15th:

Final thoughts: Harbour Town is a fantastic course that was in exceptional shape on the day that we played it. I was a bit surprised that the greens were a bit slower than I expected, but they still rolled very well. Although I did not score very well, I would definitely recommend the course.
