Pinehurst Resort (#2)

Posted On :

My last day in Pinehurst was spent playing the world famous #2. I can now understand why people have said Donald Ross is a sadistic architect. There are so many places where you can hit what you think is a good shot/putt, only to have the ball roll 25 yards in the wrong direction. This happened to me on one hole – I hit a putt that should have rolled maybe 6 inches past the hole but instead it rolled all the way off the green and into a bunker. Architecturally, it is a magnificent course, but I’m not sure it is ideal for the average golfer like me.

Ok, so how in the heck am I supposed to play this one?

And of course, the famous Payne Stewart statue.

Final thoughts: I realize that #2 is the most famous of the courses at Pinehurst, but I don’t think it is suited for the average golfer. It is too penal in places and the greens are incredibly difficult. I am certainly glad I had the opportunity to play it, but not sure I will be in a hurry to play it again.
